Instrument technicians increasingly work from a tablet: loop sheets, calibration records, P&IDs and permits to work. In a Zone 2 or Zone 22 area that tablet has to be certified, and a certified tablet has traditionally been a fixed pairing of one device model and one housing. When the tablet model is replaced, the certified housing is replaced with it.
The Armadex Ex UniCase separates the two. The housing is third-party certified to ATEX and IECEx for Zone 2 (gas) and Zone 22 (dust). Four device-specific corner inlays hold the tablet in position and provide vibration resistance, and the physical buttons remain fully operable. When a new tablet generation arrives, the inlays are swapped and the housing stays in service, with no recertification required.
The UniCase accepts current 10 to 11 inch tablets from Apple, Samsung and Microsoft, including the iPad (A16), iPad Air (M3), iPad Pro (M4 and M5), Galaxy Tab S11, Galaxy Tab S10 FE, Galaxy Tab A11+ and Surface Go 4. Other models are available on request, and the overview of all UniCase models lists the current configurations.
For an instrumentation department this means one standard across the team. IT chooses the tablet, the safety department manages one certificate, and the certified housing outlives several device generations. The UniCase is certified for Zone 2 and Zone 22 only. It is not intended for Zone 1 or Zone 21, where equipment of a higher category is required.
