Our roots
In 1937, Otto Dunkel was building ionospheric transmitters, sending messages to be bounced to another location. However, there were problems with the plug contacts.
Looking out of his window one day, Otto observed a man with a twig-broom sweeping leaves and this gave him the idea for an entirely new type of springwire contact. Dunkel patented his invention as the deflecting pin contact – now known around the world as ODU SPRINGTAC – multiple springwires, each in individual contact, ensuring an extremely high number of mating cycles and stable low contact resistance.
