MMS Electronics Ltd has available an exceptionally versatile line of alphanumeric and graphic displays for use in industrial and commercial applications. The latest addition to the popular DOG display family is the new 240×128 pixel EA DOGXL240-7. The module size is 94×67 mm with view area of 90×47 mm 3.9”. A display this size can show easily 6×40 (lines x characters) or 8×20 (lines x large characters).
With a low current consumption of 900 µA (without use of the LED backlight) the display could be battery powered making it ideal for handheld applications.
Displays with white background FSTN technology are readable without backlight. Four display technologies (STN and FSTN) and three different LED backlights (White, amber and a dual green/red) are available. The dual backlight option is ideal for applications where a green (normal) or red (warning) status indication is required. This display and the backlight combination offers up to eight designs to choose from.
Download from www.mmselectronics.co.uk the DOG-simulator and experiment with all possible combinations. The EA DOGXL240-7 is fitted with UC1611S display controller, graphics RAM and SPI / I²C interface. Contrast setting on this display is software adjustable. Temperature range -20°C to +70°C.
If touch-screen function is required a 4-wire analogue resistive touch-screen EA TOUCH240-3 is mounted directly onto the display. When using the touch-screen we recommend LED backlighting for best readability.
The DOGXL240-7 displays are only 2.8 mm high (without backlight) and 6.5 mm with LED backlight. The display can be soldered directly into the PCB or plugged into a 2.54 mm pitch socket. No need for extra screws, spacers or connecting leads.
A simulator tool and USB test board EA 9780-3USB is available to help with development. Without any programming the display is pictured on the Windows™ desktop and powered via USB when connected to the test board. Text typed in the editor is also displayed on the display. The EA 9780-3USB test board can also be used with all alphanumeric and graphic DOG displays. In graphic mode bitmaps dragged into the simulator tool are also shown on a graphic display.
A memory stick EA USBSTICK-FONT has fonts available for this display. The font software can generate Cyrillic, Greek and Arabic fonts. Windows™ fonts are also easily imported. The preview function shows the size and style and when the EA 9780-3USB test board is connected characters are also shown on the display. The software generates headers to include in the source code.
In the EA DOG display series MMS Electronics are a further 11 display sizes available starting from 1.5” to 3.9” with 4 bit, 8bit, SPI and I²C interface. See www.mmselectronics.co.uk/lcddog.htm for other sizes.
