2024 has been a milestone year for Knight Optical. With a major acquisition, the launch of brand-new product ranges, a growing workforce, and a packed calendar of exhibitions, the global optical component supplier has been on a remarkable upward trajectory. Here, Instrumentation Monthly catches up with the team to reflect on an extraordinary 12 months of growth and success.

July brought significant change for us, as Torrent Photonics LLC, a leader in photonics technology, announced its acquisition of our UK-based business. The strategic move aimed to enhance the worldwide reach and capabilities of both organisations, providing a more extensive catalogue and an even higher level of customer service.

Five months on, and that vision is already a reality. We continue to evolve, with new departments, ambitious projects, and exciting prospects shaping the next chapter of our success story.

Expanded Offerings

PR SHEAR PLATES GROUP LR High-Precision Optical Components and Sub-AssembliesFollowing Torrent Photonics’ purchase, several new products joined our portfolio. These comprise Shear Plates, Transmission Spheres, Pixel Cams, and Spectrocams. With thousands of optical components in stock – plus a comprehensive offering of custom-made optics – our range has never been more versatile.

Serving Diverse Sectors

PR TRANSMISSION SPHERE FRONT LR High-Precision Optical Components and Sub-AssembliesThis expanded versatility allows us to meet the industry-specific demands of the wide-ranging sectors we serve, such as industrial, scientific, medical, pharmaceutical, optoelectronics, laser, R&D, and oil and gas fields.

We’ve seen a significant boost in our exhibition presence, too; in terms of attendance and exhibiting. We kicked off 2024 with events like Oceanology and Satellite 24, later making our mark at the Robotics Summit, Machine Vision Conference, Medica, and, most recently, Space Tech Expo Europe.

Our latest highlight on the space sector has opened up promising opportunities in areas such as Earth Observation (EO), telescopic advancements, lunar exploration, and the fascinating connections between space and underwater technologies. These topics have inspired numerous articles, as well as various manufacturing and industry-centric initiatives. You can explore them all here.

Putting Quality First

As we continue to expand into 2025, our precision-focused ethos will remain central to our mission. Enabling pioneers to harness the power of photonics with on-spec, metrology-tested optical components – from underwater imaging systems to LiDAR in space – our promise is bringing quality into focus in everything we do. Our optics, verified in our state-of-the-art metrology lab, boast an impressive reject rate of less than 0.3% – a true reflection of our unwavering dedication to excellence.

And our commitment to quality doesn’t stop here. Our recent audit-backed ISO 9001 certification confirms we meet the most stringent standards when supplying industry-leading, high-quality optics.
