Chell Instruments are proudly celebrating a significant milestone as Engineering Manager, Duncan Cooper, marks 35 years with the gas measurement and control specialists.

Duncan began his career at the company as an Electronics Engineer in the service department, focusing on returns and maintenance for customers in the semiconductor sector.

After five years, Duncan worked his way up to Engineering Manager, a position which he has now held for three decades.

“From Engineer to Engineering Manager, my 35 years at Chell Instruments have been fantastic. My time here has given me the opportunity to work on countless exciting projects – helping create new, unique sensors and instrumentation that make a difference across key sectors” says Duncan.

With 35 years at the company, Duncan has experienced many changes throughout the company’s progression, as the business originated from almost homemade crafting in the 90s, to quality driven and state-of-the-art technology now.

Duncan has also grown with the company, welcoming fresh faces and even the 2020 strategic acquisition by investment PLC, SDI Group.

During this time, he gained hands-on experience working with products such as thermal flow controllers, capacitance manometers and valves. As Engineering Manager, Duncan now has technical oversight of the company’s product range, managing design, validation and technical support.

“Every project has brought new challenges and opportunities to innovate, with a personal highlight for me being the design of test and calibration systems for use in the gas metering sector. Growing alongside Chell has always kept things fresh and I look forward to the future ahead!” concludes Duncan.

Established in 1976, Chell have been the leading manufacturer and supplier of specialist measurement and control equipment designed to deliver highly-precise insights for key sectors.

Over time, the company and their engineers have supported sectors where precision is critical, including aerospace, pharmaceuticals, energy and motorsport.

Given their leading position in pressure, vacuum and gas flow measurement and control, Chell have assembled a team of engineering experts who can help their products deliver precision and excellence.

“With three and a half decades as part of our team, we’re proud to have Duncan as a core part of Chell. Duncan has become a technical archive for gas measurement and control technologies – a mixed blessing for him but a huge asset for the team!” says Jamie Shanahan, Director of Chell Instruments.

Outside of work, Duncan enjoys old British cars, motorcycles, motorsport, silversmithing, rebuilding watches and even a peculiar interest in telegraph poles!
