Mouser expansion continues in support of worldwide growth

Mouser Electronics is preparing to break ground on another large expansion of its global headquarters and distribution centre. The expansion, announced today atelectronica 2018 in Munich, will support the company’s business, which is growing at an incredible double-digit rate.

Construction will soon begin on a new 127,500 sq. ft. (11,845 sq. m) distribution center extension, which follows a previous large expansion that included more warehouse space and the addition of an employee fitness center and medical clinic, all completed within the last two years. Mouser also plans to add a new building on the company’s 78-acre campus to house customer service teams. The distributor has approximately 1,800 employees at its corporate headquarters and more than 2,300 employees globally.

Explains Mark Burr-Lonnon, senior vice president, Global Service & EMEA and APAC Business, “We are starting to view the building expansion as a continual process to support the growth that we have been experiencing for a long time. Every year is a new record for us, and yet we must have freely available stock; that’s our business model. We are committed to holding over one million parts in stock by the end of 2018 and continue ramping in 2019 and beyond. Inventory requires space, so we’ll just keep adding — luckily there’s plenty of room in Texas.”

Mouser will ship approximately 8 billion pieces in 2018 and plans to end the year with projected revenues of approximately $1.85 billion. The company continues its upward sales trajectory and has seen record-setting, double-digit growth in all regions: Asia is up 47 percent; EMEA, 46 percent; and the Americas, 35 percent. For statistics fans, some other numbers may be illuminating. Each day, Mouser fulfills an average of more than 16,000 orders, with distribution center staff picking approximately 60,000 different items; the distribution center’s automated shipping system can process 14 orders per minute. In 2018, Mouser invested in state-of-the-art Vertical Lift Modules, which streamline parts storage and order picking and eliminates time lost to traveling to find parts. Mouser’s automation and fast shipping processes ensures most packages are received next day in the U.S. and within two to four days internationally, with an on-time arrival rate of 99.9 percent.

Mouser is authorised for more than 750 manufacturers, supplying parts to over 600,000 customers in 220 countries and territories. The company will add four new branch offices — in Vietnam, Philippines, Poland and Brazil — to its existing 23 locations. Its website is available in 17 different languages (with Polish, Vietnamese and Filipino to be added in early 2019), live chat is available in eight languages and 27 currencies are accepted.

Burr-Lonnon concludes, “We’ll just keep on doing what has made us successful: supporting design engineers with the latest new products and technologies, providing the knowledge base and design ecosystem and enabling end-product differentiation. We aim to deliver best-in-class service with every customer.”
